Restore Your Smile and Look Years Younger With Dental Veneers

Your smile is a primary facial feature and one of the first things people notice about you. If your smile looks worn, old, or dingy, it can negatively affect your appearance and your confidence.

Fortunately, state-of-the-art dental veneers from Volterra Dental can help. Richard Blackburn, DMD, MA, offers a brief overview of dental veneers, including what they can “fix” and how they can help transform your smile, typically in just two office visits.

Veneers: The “v” stands for versatile

OK, not really — but it could be because veneers have many uses and ways to improve your smile. Made of durable, natural-looking porcelain or composite resin, dental veneers are thin “covers” that rest on the top surfaces of your teeth — the visible ones in the front and sides.

Completely custom-crafted dental veneers are used to correct lots of cosmetic issues, like:

  • Deeply stained teeth
  • Crooked or “sideways” teeth
  • Worn tooth surfaces
  • Teeth that appear too small
  • Cracked or chipped teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Teeth that are poorly aligned

Each veneer is carefully shaped and tinted to blend naturally (and beautifully) with the rest of your smile.

Depending on the issues you want to address, you can choose to have a single veneer to restore one problematic tooth or multiple veneers for a complete smile restoration. Because veneers address so many issues, they’re ideal for anyone whose smile is dingy, uneven, worn, or simply making them look and feel older than they want.

Getting veneers: What to expect

Veneers typically require two office visits: one to prepare the tooth and make a “mold” of its surface and one to apply the veneer once it’s ready.

During your first visit, we’ll remove a tiny amount of the tooth surface material to “make room” for the veneer so it doesn’t stick up above the surfaces of neighboring teeth. Then, we’ll apply a temporary veneer to protect your tooth while the permanent veneer is being made.

At your second visit, the temporary veneer will be removed, and the permanent veneer will be attached using a special adhesive. Then, we polish the veneer and make adjustments for a perfect fit. And that’s it! Your new smile is ready to flaunt.

Veneers look great and are easy to care for, too. Regular brushing and flossing keep the underlying tooth and surrounding gum healthy, and twice-yearly dental checkups ensure your veneer stays in great shape for years to come.
